People like you

old lunatic screech
asleep on the beach
face-down in the sand
must be the king of some heap
got his crown in his hand
well he'll tell us his stiry if he ever wakes up
but now he's bound for glory in a paper cup

well it's high noon & i'm hanging with the kids from queens
pill-popping milkmen & merchant marines
yeah it's high noon & i'm dreaming of my ticket out of town
but this dirty cold water keeps dragging me down

& and old way there's no other better where to go
new york city that's the only home town i'll ever know
& if you came here to make it big
well i wish you all the best of luck
you can always head back out west if you ever get stuck

but if you came here to jerk my chain
well then i wish you all the very worst
i don't mean to be a pain but baby i got here first
& it's people like you
who don't know pride from shame
& it's people like you
who will never place a face before a name
people like you
people like you
people really seem to like you ......
old lunatic screech gonna teach you a thing or two
